Past Projects...

VIRTUAL INCISION

Established the technical foundations and features, mentored team members, and resolved systemic controllability issues that enabled Virtual Incision to develop its medical robot design in record time.  These results were realized with only two software developers and in less time than most companies.

  • Credited with ensuring that VIC’s first surgical trials occurred on time
  • Offered 10 times the productivity of most development teams.

NEATO ROBOTICS

Created OS-based device drivers to read and write data to CPU-embedded peripherals, wrote software to test hardware level interfaces, and diagnosed/resolved hardware issues.  Stepped in for the sudden departure of a full-time employee and managed that departed employee’s responsibilities in addition to the originally planned development activities.

  • Automated the build of their system and developed hardware drivers and interfaces; supported Application Developers.
  • Accelerated hardware testing, troubleshooting, and QA efforts in the test and QA environment.

(CONFIDENTIAL)

Created a management system for the deployment of high-speed internet for their sales force, which automated deployment and tracking of customer equipment.  Developed a call center application to coordinate the information of thousands of high-speed internet providers, equipment, and sales staff.

  • Generated nearly $2M in savings through our automation efforts.

ZODIAC AEROSPACE / HONEYWELL

Took over and completed a stalled project focusing on a state-of-the-art avionics suite for a G650 business jet.  Defined and implemented the software architecture of a QNX-based data distribution device.  Developed a secure digital card device driver and diagnosed CPU to FPGA data transfer issues.

  • Increased data throughput for USB data transfers from 10MB/sec to 30MB/sec.
  • Achieved 39 MB/sec, utilizing multi-beat/DMA-based data transfers.

UNITED DEFENSE / BAE SYSTEMS

Worked as an integral member of a skunkworks program and fast-tracked development of the first digitally controlled hybrid electric armored reconnaissance vehicle for the British and U.S. militaries.

  • Built distributed control system that coordinated driver display and inputs with multi-node controllers for engine/generator, Lilon Batteries, cooling, and AC conduction motors.
  • Helped deliver fully functional 500-kw / 600-volt platform in approximately 9 months; it positioned United Defense as the selected leader in the development of electric ground vehicles in the Army’s Future Combat Systems initiative.
  • Assisted with development of hardware and software for the propulsion system on the NLOS-C platform; resolved technical issues with vendors to acquire platforms with necessary processing power.

ZEBRA TECHNOLOGIES

Assisted in integrating new hardware and resolving issues from unoptimized software for industrial printers.  Developed QNX-based hardware validation tools, conducted testing, and resolved CPU co-processor misunderstandings.

  • Increased data throughput to printer processing engine by several orders of magnitude, thereby meeting demanding customer performance requirements.

(CONFIDENTIAL)

We developed an embedded platform, enabling developers to focus on implementing new features with limited interaction with core Operating System (OS) functionality.  Successfully aligned two competing development teams to utilize proposed path, complete with a fully concurrent and scalable programming model, limiting and eliminating time robbing issues with deadlocks and memory corruption.

  • Accelerated the ship date of their product by 5 months.

CUREXO TECHNOLOGIES / THINK SURGICAL

Resolved systematic issues with their surgical robotic system, specifically timing and accuracy.  Restructured control systems, ensuring timing deadlines were met.

  • Resolved all major issues within a single month, well ahead of the anticipated completion date.

KLD ENERGY

Established an integrated system to track software and hardware requirements, design documents, source code revisions, and issue tracking.  Established software and hardware best practice procedures for future development.  Mentored stakeholders at all levels on how these tools and procedures accelerate the realization of business objectives.

  • Rewrote software within one month; enabled continued funding for the development of their electric drive system.

(CONFIDENTIAL)

Navigated a culturally diverse working environment at a global $300B+ company.  Introduced RTOS and implemented a software tracking system.  Worked with 30 employees, educating them on creating partitions in code and concepts surrounding RTOS, device drivers, and application development best practices

  • Created a platform providing the ability to focus on the domain logic of their BMS.

HYDRIL  /  GE OIL & GAS

Directed their Blowout Preventer (BOP) Control System Architecture and Design to reduce the time and manpower to upgrade software on approximately 300 units on oil rigs in the field.  Designed and implemented a highly distributed end-to-end configurable BOP system and a QNX 6.x-based 2D and 3D control interface.

  • Developed a beta for their system that decreased BOP software deployment time from a 50 day average to one day.

Claim Your Embedded System Audit

The best way we can help is to talk with you about your specific requirements and concerns...

With 30 minutes spent looking over your project together, we can diagnose the root cause(s) of poor embedded system performance as well as issues that may be preventing you from shipping on time.

During our conversation, we will specifically focus on:

Gap Analysis

We'll identify the information and architecture gaps you'll need to fill.

Validation

You'll understand which parts of your existing architecture and implementation are sound and which need improvements.

Path to Revenue

You'll understand the shortest path from where you are to revenue.

Options

You'll understand the options you have for moving forward or resolving persistent issues.
